Working at Tiger-Rock gave me some experience making products that I hadn't had the opportunity to do previously. Among those products was championship medals. Having experience with bronze casting and screen printing was incredibly helpful during this project. Bronze casting taught me the capabilities and definition possible with casting metal while screen printing helped in setting up the file for working with limited colors. Cost was definitely a factor so we were limited in size and in the number of colors. Visually, they wanted a medal that looked more like something a more mainstream athlete would receive while also alluding to martial arts. The typography, "N," and roman numerals really gave it an athletic feel while the black stripe through the center paid tribute to a black belt.
Championship Medals
This project presented the chance to work within an athletic aesthetic while also utilizing previous experiences as a sculptor and printmaker to create championship medals.
